Hopefully the #1 and #2 starters pineda and tanaka can get us a series win

Good little year for Tank and Big Mike

    Odds,

It has underlying message..Don´t pay attention to him
    ____________

There is no underlying message other than an appropriate analogy that speaks to complaining about a fait accompli rather than moving on.

I like the nicknames… Tank and Big Mike sound like bodyguards for Justin Bieber or characters from Toy Story.

Well…Let´s say it has other similarities in relation to other issues

So I will bid you all a very good day

It’s also wonderful to see Ms are doing sub par again. can’t stand Seattle.

And here I thought sports’ hate was reserved for good teams ;-)

    Is it football season yet?

  8. Mottsx April 22nd, 2014 at 12:34 pm

I really see no reason why we can’t sweep.

  9. Against All Odds April 22nd, 2014 at 12:34 pm

.their fans shouldn’t be upset with him…..same with Yankee fans with Cano

    —————–

They will be I’m expecting Cano to get mostly booed with a few cheers

  10. SweetSpot April 22nd, 2014 at 12:35 pm

The game tonight means just one game in the standings but I think it’s important. It’s our ace against their ace, (sorry CC) and whether Tanaka dominates or gets roughed up, a message could be sent. It might be neither of course but it will be fun. Tanaka’s cool and calm demeanor will be tested for sure if the Sox get a few men on with no out and the crowd gets Fenway loud.

  11. Tar April 22nd, 2014 at 12:42 pm

“There is no underlying message other than an appropriate analogy that speaks to complaining about a fait accompli rather than moving on.”

First of all there… is an underlying message, there is some people on this blog that you don’t like and you will try and tweak them whenever possible. That’s fine at least own up to it.

Second of all the discussion ( not complaining) was on Ellsbury and Cano getting booed or not. Don’t like the discussion just stay out of it. And it is a perfectly valid discussion ( as Chad has pointed out) especially considering the context of the next few series and those players involved.

So who is the one really “complaining ” here?

  12. Patrick April 22nd, 2014 at 12:46 pm

Man I hope Cano doesn’t get booed. I am guessing it will be a mix. Personally I’d be cheering him on, he was a truly great Yankee. Dude got paid thats all, can’t hold that against a man

  13. Tar April 22nd, 2014 at 12:53 pm

So I Guess you are “complainer” who “can’t move on” Patrick. Maybe you should go play with the “old men playing chess on Calle Ocho in Miami.”

BTW, FYI not sure if you noticed, but someone was using your handle with an added “e” on the end the other day. Chad was all over it and I beleived removed the posts.

Big news for NJ.. we’re getting ANOTHER Shake Shack.

When I quickly first read this, I thought it said Shark Shack, and I’m like…why would anyone want to eat there?

    Scenario in my mind:

    Going to lunch

  22. BoJo April 22nd, 2014 at 1:06 pm

    Tar–exactly what I was thinking!

Mottsx–If you literally did, I’m sure you’d have no trouble getting deliveries.

  23. Chip April 22nd, 2014 at 1:09 pm

My guess is that Cano gets a standing ovation in his first AB and then the treatment gets progressively more “meh” as the series moves on.

  24. Mottsx April 22nd, 2014 at 1:11 pm

I’m going to the game Tuesday against Seattle and I will do what comes natural when Cano comes to bat. I’m not sure what that is yet.

In another topic, I’m also going Friday and sitting in HR territory with what I hope is a chance to catch Pujols 500th HR. Am I supposed to throw that one back too?

  25. Chip April 22nd, 2014 at 1:12 pm

Seattle’s biggest problem is not just offense but how unbelievably bad their outfielders have played offensively.

  29. Chip April 22nd, 2014 at 1:31 pm

    Just some random musings:

Watched a couple of Met games and Granderson just looks lost. He’s gone full Pedro Cerrano out there where you throw him anything offspeed and he’s going to hack and miss.

Ken Rosenthal and Mitch Williams randomly brought up Wily Mo Pena last night on MLB Network. He was one of my all time favorite Yankee prospects. He’s currently 32 and hitting .300 with 9 HR in 20 games for the Orix Buffaloes in Japan. Given the lack of true RH power in baseball I’m shocked no one has dialed him up to see if he wants to come back to the US.

Vidal Nuno should get the start against the Angels on Saturday but I’m almost positive Phelps will. Girardi can get away with a decision that makes no sense by saying that the Angles with Kendrick, Trout and Pujols are predominantly RH.

I’ve said it before, Girardi has turned David Phelps into this year’s Chris Stewart – a guy he is just going to keep running out there regardless of results.

I like Phelps but Phelps/Betances is turning into Stewart/Romine from last year. You have a guy in Phelps who, for all his positives, just doesn’t have the stuff to be a late inning reliever, he should either be starting in the minors or throwing multiple innings in relief. Then you have Betances who clearly has late inning stuff but you’re using him sporadically and so his control hasn’t been as sharp which you’re then using as an excuse to not use him in big spots. It’s a misuse of both players.

I’ve been super impressed by Ellsbury – as Blake said a while ago – you knew he was good but watching him everyday gives me a much greater appreciation for just how good.

Offer the Phillies: Warren, Flores and John Ryan Murphy for Chase Utley and see what happens.

  30. Patrick April 22nd, 2014 at 1:31 pm

Pass. The key is having a contrast between the deep fried cheesecake and the liquidy strawberry filling. If you deep fry the filling it will just be a dried out hunk of sugar and fat

  31. Mottsx April 22nd, 2014 at 1:31 pm

Shame have you seen this place on tv?

I have heard good things about the Chip Shop. I like the idea of twice fried cherry pie! It was banned in NY for a short period of time but made its way back onto the menu. You can’t keep a good dessert down.

I’m really excited for tonight’s game. I’m also really high on cold medicine having gotten that ridiculous flu that’s going around from this awful woman who sat next to me at Hedwig & the Angry Inch coughing on me all night.

I don’t think Cano is getting booed initially. I think he’s gonna get a warm welcome.

  38. Chip April 22nd, 2014 at 1:41 pm

If you’re going to deep fry a cheesecake the proper filling would be a chocolate dipped strawberry.

  39. blake April 22nd, 2014 at 1:42 pm

I’m one of these people that believes that anything you do to fresh fruit cooking wise actually makes it worse……with the exception of apple pie. I’ve never had a peach dish that was as good as a fresh peach by itself…..same with blackberries, strawberries and now all fruits

  40. blake April 22nd, 2014 at 1:43 pm

Feel better Glove…..hopefully all this mess will be gone soon. Been a long winter

  41. bigdan22 April 22nd, 2014 at 1:43 pm

Well tonight is the reason why the Yanks signed Tanaka. They desperately needed an ace and got one. CC is fine going up against the backend guys, but I doubt you can count on him to give up less than 4 runs up in Fenway. You need Tanaka to give up three or less for the Yanks to have a shot tonight. Preferably no more than two.

Boston is actually hitting pretty well but their performance with RISP is worst than the Yanks. Other than Lester, their rotation don’t look too hot right now.

I’ll be wondering which Pineda shows up tomorrow. Pre or post pine tar. There’s about a 3 mph difference between the two.

  42. blake April 22nd, 2014 at 1:44 pm

    blake,

I’m with you. I don’t like cooked fruit and if you put a piece of stewed fruit in front of me you better put up your defenses quick before I slap and claw at you.

Although I do love a nice banana bread if that counts as cooked fruit.

  45. Chip April 22nd, 2014 at 1:46 pm

    Blake

There are some applications that I agree with you. For example, if I’m going to have blueberry or cherry pie I prefer the canned filling to fresh fruit because too often people don’t know what they’re doing and the fruit becomes too watery (quick tip: if you are making a filling with fresh fruit, peel, grate and strain a granny smith apple – the pectin in the apple helps thicken it.)

That said, a macerated blackberry sauce topping soft serve vanilla ice cream is about as good as it gets.

  46. Against All Odds April 22nd, 2014 at 1:46 pm

Fair fair – to me a good fruit cobbler can be really good but I can see where a bad one would turn you off. In general though, I do agree. I’m not wasting fresh cherries on a cherry pie, I would rather go with the pie filling or use frozen.

  52. 86w183 April 22nd, 2014 at 1:52 pm

I was a sleepaway camp counselor once upon a time and on parents weekend one of my campers Dad’s tipped me in several pounds of fresh shark steak from a shark he had just caught. It was a horrible tip to give to someone working on tips to take care of your snotty kid and who had no means of refrigeration.

Another one of my camper’s Mom’s tried to tip me in sex and an offer to come live with her after the summer in her mansion and be paid to be her son’s live in “big brother” since the Dad had divorced her. I passed on the offer but she still put $1500 in cash in my pocket at the end of the summer with her phone number. That was double my salary to be a counselor.

Yes, peaches should be left alone and if you’re going to make cobbler or something with them, use the frozen ones. The only time heating up a peach works for me is if you sprinkle it with cinnamon sugar and grill it.

Not at all – the key is to freeze the strawberry after you coat it with the chocolate. Then you put it in the cheesecake, batter and fry it. By the time the crust has formed the strawberry has thawed enough for you to cut it but not mushed out…and the added benefit is that it keeps the center of the cheesecake cool which is how you want to serve that anyway.

So great in Hedwig I had to express it and to tell him he should Tempt Hamlet before he got
Too old. He told me he’d been offered it on e but turned it down. Shame.

I like tomatoes but I think the adoration for them skipped my generation or something…..my parents will eat like tomato and mayonnaise sandwiches and that just makes me want to gag. I like them as like a supporting character in a sandwich or salad but I can’t just eat a tomato by itself unless it’s a really really good one

Speaking of things that glow in the dark.

I once went swimming in a lagoon that glowed in the dark.

Every time you swam or lifted your arm out of the water it was like glowing magic pixie dust from Peter Pan.

    A bioluminescent bay.

    Outrageous.

  101. Chip April 22nd, 2014 at 2:20 pm

My wife makes this thing called “Magic Chocolate Flan Cake.” You grease up a bunt pan, pour caramel sauce into it, then make a chocolate cake batter, pour that in and make flan and pour that in. Once it’s cooked, cooled and set and you turn it out you’ve got chocolate cake topped with flan with gooey caramel sauce running all down the sides.

My late father in law grew phenomenal tomatoes in his garden in Kentucky.

Haven’t has one worth a crap since.

As for stage performances — I saw Donna McKechnie, the original Cassie in “A Chorus Line” the only true show-stopping performance I ever saw when she performed “The Music and the Mirror”….. five minute standing ovation… it was unforgettable

Patti Lupone in “Gypsy” was also phenomenal…. only time I ever hung around at the stage door to try to shake someone’s hand…. I failed

I live in NY, but the answer to that question is yes. There are communities of hill people in places like that. Mostly the communities were started by Native Americans and then joined by run-away slaves and they’ve stayed kind of isolated for generations.

  143. bruceb April 22nd, 2014 at 3:21 pm

Many of the beaches had military designations.

For example, Blue beach, red beach, etc.

Blue beach was rumored to be magnificent but I never got to see it because it was off limits.

It is now open as the land has been returned to the people.

The locals were like David to Goliath but they had a courage way beyond their numbers.

Where I lived was a “rescued” area.

It had better views than the best piece of property in Malibu.

But I prefer the real thing.

It was like being a real life Robinson Crusoe.

We had no running water at the time but I had the opportunity to get some.

All it took was me to be my own utility.

Mrs. MTU is still amazed that I ran at least a couple miles of pvc piping up to our hilltop home.

  161. Hankflorida April 22nd, 2014 at 4:01 pm

When the Yankees signed Ellsbury, I saw his 2011 numbers and thought that maybe Cashman saw him in that light playing in the Stadium instead of Fenway. I remember Wade Boggs saying that he could have gone for the long ball but chose to instead keep his batting average higher. Now that I have watched Ellsbury play, I see him playing with the Boggs philosophy and was wrong in thinking that the right field porch would turn him into a Ricky Henderson or even a Johnny Damon who hit 24 home runs when he came here. Ellsbury is a Boggs type player with speed, and how he had that 2011 season is beyond my comprehension.
