They won’t trade DRob though..:…they will hang around and try to grab a WC and then let him walk for a draft pick
    ——————
Think they will be able to make him a QO?”

Yea….worst case he accepts and you have him back for 1 year. It sucks for DRob a lot more than for the Yankees…..it would hurt his market most likely

Pomeranz started the year in the bullpen….

  7. yankeefeminista June 3rd, 2014 at 12:24 pm

I’m plotting how to go to that game. Besides the obvious Tanak factor, I love weekday day games.

  8. Doreen June 3rd, 2014 at 12:24 pm

    Shame -

I’m bummed – it would have been a great game to go to, but that’s the only day my daughter has off from work and we had to bunch up a few appointments on that day. I had actually marked the Yankees’ weekday afternoon games on my calendar, hoping that I could do a spur of the moment excursion to the Bronx at least once this summer.

It’s not been my year so far, as far as getting to ballgames during the week. A lot going on.

  9. yankeefeminista June 3rd, 2014 at 12:30 pm

Mookie Betts expected to be promoted to AAA today. I wish we had someone prominent moving up from AA to AAA.

Hank – I don’t see why not. Burawa throws a sinker he can get up to 97 and Heredia, although he’s still on the come back trail would
Only be doing what he’s already in for – short stints of like 3 innings and his offspeed looked seriously good to me.

The Yanks should not waste time and get these young guys here for one inning every other day. Jack Nicklaus watching Bubba Watson repeated Bobby Jones’s words when he first saw him, “This is a game I am not familar with.” I am not used to five inning pitchers building up pitch counts because they can’t challenge hitters and have specialist from the bullpen start at the 6th inning, but if it works, try it and see how far it takes you.

  11. Shame Spencer June 3rd, 2014 at 12:35 pm

Yeah, I’m going to the Wednesday game and have been intermittently ill for the last two weeks… so Thursday is the perfect work from home day. My boss is in the UK all week as well. Hmmmm…..

  12. Shame Spencer June 3rd, 2014 at 12:35 pm

Sorry to hear that Doreen, the Tankees are my favorite team.

The immortal JBJ and his .200/.283/.300/.583 slash is probably crapping his pants since Mookie started playing some CF in the minors recently.

  14. blake June 3rd, 2014 at 12:38 pm

If the Yanks didn’t have Jeter as a ceremonial pick then who would be their 1 all star? DRob? Betances? Solarte?

    He’s my favorite.

He’s a really good pitcher, he’s young, he’s adorbs, he’s upset even when he makes outs because he didn’t make them how he wanted to, and he’s locked up for a few years.

    I love Tank.

I still want a .gif of Phelps yelling at Derek. How did that not make the front pages after shush-gate 2013???
    —————————————————————————–
That play is a non-issue as far as I’m concerned. So Phelps yelled for Derek to throw the ball.
Where is the crime in that? NONE.
Phelps was being a good teammate and helping out Derek when he needed some help.

I think it will end up being Jeter/Tank/Betances as our 3 All Stars

Betances being the one on the fence for making it or not.

At the moment, Tanaka and Buehrle are the top 2 battling for the start

  20. blake June 3rd, 2014 at 12:45 pm

Tanaka is probAbaly sad he didn’t sign with a better team

  21. blake June 3rd, 2014 at 12:46 pm

I would have probAbaly said Throw the (insert curse words) ball!!!!!

  22. pkyankfan69 June 3rd, 2014 at 12:46 pm

With Tanaka still having the current edge over Buehrle

  23. NYY_Girl_Penny June 3rd, 2014 at 12:46 pm

i feel bad for this team, the media is destroying them lately. telling them how bad they are and its not like they arent playing with their best effort.. its Hal’s and his cronies fault for letting things get so bad by focusing on cutting cost and saving money that this is the best team they could build.

I hope we get an owner that loves baseball and the Yankees as much as we do.. perhaps Jeter will be that guy!

  24. mick June 3rd, 2014 at 12:48 pm

    Imagine this team without Jeter.
Then think about what next year might bring.
Will some of you still watch?
    Some have stopped already.
    Find a new team, frontrunners..

  25. Shame Spencer June 3rd, 2014 at 12:49 pm

Lol, it was really just a joke guys I don’t think any news outlet has made much fuss about Phelps yelling at Derek. Shush-Gate 2013 was much more of a headline!

  26. mick June 3rd, 2014 at 12:50 pm

They will keep going after pitching to keep us respectable and in games.
They will have to get some bats, SS is a given.
They will remain competitive and get younger.
That might keep Hal in the game.
That might be too bad for us..

  27. Shame Spencer June 3rd, 2014 at 12:51 pm

Let’s all just take solace in the fact that the Mets also suck. The media would have a field day with a competitive Mets team and this Yankee squad.

Not sure how much of a chance Betances has. The kid is brand new to MLB and not on the radar as of yet. He will need to keep his ERA where it is now or even lower to get on the

I find it simply amazing, reading through so many negative comments here, that people would even bother following the Yankees, after all, they suck.

Can’t people just accept that Cano is no longer a Yankee?

Can’t they accept Montero is no longer a Yankee, and even if he were, as bad as the offense as been, would most likely be in SWB, as he is now in Tacoma?

This may not be the best Yankees team, but, they are the team I root for, and support, win or lose. :)

    Mick,

Glad you are enjoying the games. I like it when we can score.

  36. pkyankfan69 June 3rd, 2014 at 12:56 pm

Mets are going to be interesting next year

    Harvey – Wheeler – Syndergaard – Niese – Gee – deGrom – Montero

I’d imagine they will move Colon this year to a contender needing a starter for a bat

If the Mets ever get a decent offense in the near future with that starting they have a chance to be pretty damn good…. It would be awful having the Yankees suck and the Mets be good… I wasn’t around in the 80′s to experience that madness.

  37. yankeefeminista June 3rd, 2014 at 12:57 pm

Mottsx, at some point, certainly the bat is ready.

  39. Mottsx June 3rd, 2014 at 12:59 pm

Should move Pirela to LF (since flores is on the DL) and Refsnyder up to AAA. He needs to be challenged while he’s on fire.

  40. austinmac June 3rd, 2014 at 1:03 pm

    Mick,

Yes, I did and have been saying for two years we are on the 1960s path with little help from below and ownership that places the bottom line above all else.

  41. yankeefeminista June 3rd, 2014 at 1:04 pm

The problem is the Yankees somehow forgot about the bigger picture… That is why they kind of just make it up as they go along.

I love and support the Yanks too, win or lose. I spend money to see them even when they suck and pretty much let them rule my life pretty even though they are very difficult to watch right now. The point however is that without even trying the Yankees FO could have come up with a better team and planned better going back five years. And Cano and Montero, neither of whom I mentioned are relevant,/i> because the Yankees have no bats. They traded Montero, their best trade chip for pitching, not offense, which they have needed for y-e-a-r-s. And that pitcher they traded for (whom FTR I have supported by driving all over creation, seeing him pitch 3 times in both the minors and majors) has pitched 4 games in two years, but I keep hoping against hope that he will pitch and pitch well for us someday. Meanwhile the bats, the slug, the team designed for Yankee Stadium has ceased to exist. Does any other team in the league have fewer in prime core position players? Any? It does boggle the mind that the FO could mess this up so bad … But… we still love and root for them… we can do so and not like what they have chosen to do… really, truly, we can…

That Thursday game is in serious jeopardy weather-wise… tonight about 50/50 but tomorrow looks nice.

The Hall is already watered down with career above average players who compiled big totals… especially pitchers like Don Sutton, Phil Niekro, Gaylord Perry and Bert Blyleven each of whom had a typical season of 16-13 but lasted a long time (17-20 yrs).

By virtually every measure Mike Mussina was vastly superior to those guys but wont likely get a sniff.

  52. bruceb June 3rd, 2014 at 1:43 pm

This may not be the best Yankees team, but, they are the team I root for, and support, win or lose.

This is an age-old fallacy…how can you be a “true fan” if you dare to criticize the team?

The New York Yankees is the most successful franchise in history. Their MO – from the days of Babe Ruth, to George Steinbrenner, to Derek Jeter – has been “we play to win the game.”

When they’re not winning, fans are going to complain.

And when they’re not winning – and they’re excruciatingly boring to watch too – they’re going to complain even more.

I’ve never ever met a fan who enjoys losing. That doesn’t mean to say they stop rooting for their team. Even us spoiled Yankees fans.

  53. blake June 3rd, 2014 at 1:46 pm

I criticize because I care…..apathetic is the worst thing a fan can be. If you’re ok with the Yankees sucking then I question your fandom

  54. austinmac June 3rd, 2014 at 1:51 pm

    WTP,

I understand what I perceive your irritation with the “I was right” folks. But, in my world, it is what I call human nature.

I disagree that most here pull for losses. If I am typical, what I feel is disappointment and irritation when we lose. Not much, sad but true, makes me grumpier than games like those we have had lately.

I am a knowledgable fan, but that’s it. Yet, I could see, like so many others, the age problem coming for the offensive side of the team. Yet, Hal and others ignored it, didn’t see it, hoped for luck or something that cause them to be inactive in team building since they won in 2009.

As a fan that has seen the good and the bad, I don’t believe as some seem to management is always right or that the Yankees are destined to be good. They were awful in much of my young life. It makes baseball not fun for me. I don’t want many more years of that when they do have the money to sign the best Cubans, the Japanese or the best of the young Latins.

Yet, no matter how things go, I watch and I hope. But, believe me, watching us get three hit by Hughes was not my idea of pleasure.

  56. austinmac June 3rd, 2014 at 1:56 pm

With respect to the Hall of Fame, I think it should be limited to those players who were the best when they played. A guy who gathered stats because he played a long time but was was not elite, doesn’t do it for me. He needs to be a guy who makes you stop and watch a game of a team you don’t care about.

  57. austinmac June 3rd, 2014 at 1:59 pm

Wouldn’t it be nice if CC’s knee felt better and he was suddenly throwing harder? Such are the dreams of a fan. It would not make me happy for him to hurt or suck.

  58. Hassey June 3rd, 2014 at 2:03 pm

pretty amazing that A-Rod has been able to steer clear of the newspapers and paparazzi so far this season. I wonder where & how he is spending this summer?

  59. yankinvegas June 3rd, 2014 at 2:06 pm

Agree totally on Mussina being better than Niekro, Blyleven and Perry. Moose belongs in HoF. Also agree that MLB loves it when we suck. They get to crow about idiotic competitive balance and get their ridiculous luxury tax dollars from us.
When idiots like Harper write moronic columns they must be taken to task. Alex Rodriguez was coming off of three MVP awards in five years when he opted out and resigned with NYY. Robinson Cano is not in the same stratosphere with Alex in his prime. I don’t care about PEDs, never have and never will as long as David Ortiz is allowed to play.
To write about whether the Yankees would want a redo after two months of a ten year deal just proves that baseball writers are the biggest idiots going. The Yankees were never going to be able to get past Cano going 3 for 40 in the 2012 postseason.
And the thing that nobody will ever write and the Yankees will never say, for obvious reasons, the team did not want to have their best player linked to an agent that is an admitted former crack dealer.
So enough with Cano. He is not coming back. And with him in the leadership role, the team stunk last year too,

But people like me, blake, Doreen, Jerk, Shame, JAP, YF, AAO, etc, etc. don’t belong in that category of fans who complain about stupid sh!t for the hell of it.

You’re not talking about a bunch of bridge jumpers here like many who post idiotic nonsense on the game threads.

We’re all fans who gave the front office a fair shake for YEARS before we got tired of watching predictably bad decisions come back to bite them on the ass again and again with no accountability for failure (especially the lack of player development at a time when they need it the most).

I don’t know how anyone not wearing rose colored glasses during the offseason didn’t see this coming a mile away.

  61. 86w183 June 3rd, 2014 at 2:08 pm

Well IF his knee stops hurting he should throw harder. I speculated something else must be wrong because a year removed from the elbow his velocity should have returned but didn’t.

As for the Hall… I hardly care any more. Very little thought goes into most ballots and almost none of it is objective.

The blackballing of the players suspected of or know to have taken part in steroid use is hypocritical when the managers who won games and championships and happily looked the other way are getting enshrined. There are probably 50-75 illegal amphetamine users in the Hall along with who knows how many who benefited from institutional racism.

Whoever finally told AROD to shut up did a smart thing. He gets in trouble whenever he or a mouthpiece says anything. So, don’t. With our infield, his salary and his silence, he is probably coming back. However, one can see what a year off does to a player, even Jeter. AROD hasn’t played a full season in even longer. Plus, hips are probably akin to shoulders in recovery rate.

It’s a fact that most fans here root for the team to lose.

    ——————-

The only ppl here that root for the team to lose are the trolls with multiple accounts looking to cause trouble. But if the team is bad then they’re bad. There wouldn’t be negative comments if the team was performing well.
    —————————————————————————————-
    I beg to differ.
There were fans here complaining the Yankees did not “sweep” the Phillies in ’09
So believe me, the fans here complain win or lose.
    —————

That’s the minority not the majority. Sweeps don’t happen in baseball anyway.
    ———————————————————————————————————
Speaking of sweeps, the A’s are coming off a weekend sweep of the Angels.
Let’s hope the A’s did not pack a broom on the flight to NYC
    ————————————
Agreed that’s the last thing we don’t need not now for sure

Fans who blindly agree with everything the organization does are not true fans, they are suckers.

Anyone with a fraction of a brain can see, and should be frustrated by, how this team has been mismanaged into the ground.

I would argue that fans who make cogent, critical comments generally care more than the Pollyannas.

It’s ugly, has been ugly, and will continue to be ugly for the foreseeable future.

  68. Shame Spencer June 3rd, 2014 at 2:26 pm

So I dunno if I mentioned why I’m going to the game Wednesday… the WB Mason rep I work with hooked me up with two tickets. Then he calls me today and wants to know if he can push off two more on me. When we were talking about it, he explained to me that the Yankees force them to buy a certain number of seats per year and when they can’t fill up games they’ll give their sponsors another ~100 seats. They told him as long as butts are in the seats there’s a good chance they’ll make some money off of beer and food sales. The vendors that are able to put people in the seats they know they won’t sell otherwise get more comp tickets lol.

So… I’ll be sitting amongst the wealthy. And I’m not buying any damn beer (hard liquor in a flask with Jesus’ face on it, thankyouverymuch). I’ll count this as a win for LoHud!

First time in years I haven’t sat in the bleachers, btw. Gonna be weird.

    —————————————————————————————————————–

I am also amazed ARod has been able to avoid being in the news 2 months into the season.
I guess ESPN is pre-occupied with Johnny Manziel at the moment.

  70. Shame Spencer June 3rd, 2014 at 2:33 pm

We’re all fans who gave the front office a fair shake for YEARS before we got tired of watching predictably bad decisions come back to bite them on the ass again and again with no accountability for failure (especially the lack of player development at a time when they need it the most).

    ——————

I really like Cash actually.. even when he’s being a pr*ck at times, because I think ultimately you kinda need some of that every now and again. That being said, the FO has lost me and any faith I had in them over the last 3-4 years. This team was primed to be a juggernaut after 2009… that’s the part that really stings. I know it’s only been a few years and some fans of some franchises would kill to have these sorts of problems… but I’m not a fan of just some franchise lol. The Yankees are baseball.

  71. Doreen June 3rd, 2014 at 2:35 pm

    ScottinNJ -

I think that’s rather harsh, saying that anyone who goes along with the organization is a sucker, and also harsh to say that those who are critical care more than the “Pollyannas,” which is unnecessarily derogatory, and not true.

Everyone is different. That’s all. We really have to stop measuring and categorizing fandom.

It’s really simple. We like when they win. We don’t like when they lose. Many fans don’t dig deep into the workings of the organization. Doesn’t make them lesser fans. Maybe it makes them saner – less angst!

One could say that any of us who bother to spend inordinate amounts of time dissecting our favorite team are certifiably nuts. After all, except as an escape from the reality of daily living, what the Yankees do or don’t do ultimately does not affect my life.

I was a big fan of Cashman until he consolidated his power. I think he changed, and has taken this team downhill.

I’ve wanted him ousted for years now, not because I don’t care, or because I’m negative it’s because I feel strongly he’s not worthy of the job he has.

    Pitching matchup #1: We lose.

    Pitching matchup #2: We lose.

Pitching matchup #3: We may win if Tanaka pitches a shutout, he strikes out a bunch to keep this pathetic defense from handling too many balls, and the offense manages to scratch out a single run. Otherwise, we lose. .500 today, below .500 tomorrow.

    —–

Yeah, I’m with you on that. I was also a huge Cashman supporter and totally bought what he was selling for a number of years.

But when he took control of the farm in 2005 he made a whole bunch of promises that he’s never been able to deliver. I certainly recall his claims of “Good help the American League” if and when the farm produces the kinds of results he was expecting.

It’s been 9 years now and Cashman has had more time to turn the developmental side of the organization around than a 2-term US President. And I’m still not seeing the rest of the AL shaking in their boots.

I can’t say that I’m optimistic that the results will change much when they still have the same people in those positions that got us to this point.

It also doesn’t help when you’re falling far short of expectations that Cashman is kind of a pr!ck on top of it. You are right. He has indeed changed and I hope this is his last contract as GM.

I think the entire front office is desperate for new blood.

  83. Giuseppe Franco June 3rd, 2014 at 3:18 pm

Um, of course that’s “God help the American League.”

The rest of the AL has had plenty of good help already.

Every fan base has all kinds, from the unqualified devotees to the impossible to satisfy critics who think the 1998 Yankees had a pretty good year. Nothing wrong with either extreme or the vast majority of us in the middle.

  85. austinmac June 3rd, 2014 at 3:31 pm

So true. In any other organization, Cashman would be history already. Okay, maybe not the Cubs’. Change is also needed to at least signal to the fan base that they acknowledge things are not acceptable. It could get very quiet in the Bronx if/when the team starts to play .450 or worse baseball. I think the Jeter swansong carries only so much weight.

  88. tomingeorgia June 3rd, 2014 at 3:40 pm

When it comes to the team on the field everyday, I’m an unqualified devotee of rooting. I rooted for Roy White, Marv Thronebury and Horace Clark. Nothing says I have to be a fan of management, but I root for the guys in pinstripes, whoever they are. Let’s win this game tonight, regardless of management. Hal runs a big business here. He’ll make the decisions when he feels he has to, not before. I’m in favor of new blood (I wasn’t when they came for me, though), and the time may be nigh.

The “mainstream” is not a one way street. We reject Swamy’s demand to mainstream. We rather stand for integration with equality.
