Brandon McCarthy

Brandon McCarthy entered Saturday 1-1 with a 6.89 ERA and 1.98 WHIP in three career starts at the new Yankee Stadium. He reversed that trend in his first start in the Bronx as a Yankee, tossing six strong innings to beat the Reds 7-1. It was another quick game, lasting just 2:41. McCarthy (1-0) scattered six hits, allowed just one run (a solo homer), struck out nine and walked none. He has been very good through two starts since Brian Cashman brought him here for Vidal Nuno. Carlos Beltran hit an early solo homer off All-Star Alfredo Simon. Brett Gardner drove in three runs and Brian Roberts went 2 for 4 with three runs scored. Hiroki Kuroda will start Sunday as the Yankees try to open the second half with a sweep.
