The Yankees have a day game, so the lineup should be posted fairly shortly. For now, here’s a quick just-in-case-you-missed-it post.
Yesterday, the Yankees announced that they will not wait until the final home stand to honor Derek Jeter. They will instead celebrate The Captain’s career with a pregame ceremony on Sunday, September 7. Fans in attendance will receive a limited-edition commemorative coin to recognize the event.
I have to assume the ceremony will be similar to last year’s ceremony for Mariano Rivera — presumably with much less Metallica involvement — but it’s worth noting that in remembering those last few days of Rivera’s career, it’s not the pregame ceremony that stands out, it’s that final moment on the mound when he wept into Andy Pettitte’s shoulder.
If you’re looking for Jeter’s most memorable Yankee Stadium farewell, the smart money might still be on that final home stand.
